Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that can enhance the size and appearance of the breasts. Fuller, larger breasts can create a more curvy, feminine figure and may also boost confidence and self-esteem. Dr. Ashoor performs breast augmentation using breast implants to boost feminine confidence and improve breast size, shape, symmetry, and firmness.

Who Can Benefit From Breast Augmentation?

Implant Options

Dr. Ashoor uses silicone breast implants for all breast augmentation patients. Silicone breast implants are FDA approved for women ages 22 and older and give the breasts a natural look and feel. This implant material is excellent for women with a small amount of breast tissue or thin breast tissue. Silicone implants are also long lasting and have a reduced rate of rupture or rippling.
Dr. Ashoor uses both round and anatomic implants. Round implants have uniform fullness throughout and are an excellent option for women who desire greater projection and more upper pole fullness for their breasts. Anatomic implants are shaped like natural breasts and have more fullness in the lower pole, making them an excellent option for women who need shape correction or who desire very natural-looking results.
Dr. Ashoor uses textured implants for breast augmentation. Textured implants have a rough, irregular texture on the outside that allows them to bind to the breast tissue after insertion. Breast augmentation with textured implants may be less likely to lead to complications such as capsular contracture or implant shifting.
Dr. Ashoor typically places the breast implants over the chest muscle. This placement option has a shorter recovery period because it causes less tissue trauma, and it may also create a more lifted appearance. However, depending on your breast anatomy and the quality of your breast tissue, Dr. Ashoor may need to place the implants under the chest muscle. Patients with saggy or thin breast skin are more likely to need under-the-muscle placement.

Concerns

After your breast augmentation procedure, you will be provided with a list of instructions to follow during recovery. These will include guidelines on what to eat, how to take medications, how to bathe, and how to care for your wound and dressings. You should wear your support bra at all times during recovery and rest with pillows under your head and shoulders. Some swelling and bruising may occur and will subside after a few weeks. Avoid strenuous aerobic and weight-lifting exercises for at least four weeks, with the exception of walking. As you adhere to Dr. Ashoor’s recommendations, your recovery should go smoothly and quickly.
Dr. Ashoor performs breast augmentation using the inframammary incision, which extends along the crease underneath each breast. Consequently, you may have some scarring in this location. However, scarring is unpredictable and depends on your cells, skin type, and healing. Scarring will be inconspicuous in some patients and can be hidden by clothing. Scarring after surgery is likely to fade over time.
Many factors influence the cost of breast augmentation, such as the physician’s fees, hospital fees, and anesthesia fees. During your consultation, you will be provided with more details about what to expect regarding the cost of your breast augmentation.
Some pain or discomfort may occur after breast augmentation. Dr. Ashoor will provide you with prescription pain medications to alleviate your discomfort during recovery. Any pain will be temporary and should subside quickly as your body heals.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation

A: Complications after breast augmentation are rare but may occur in some patients. Some of the more common complications include bleeding, infection, changes in nipple sensation, implant rupture, capsular contracture, bottoming out, double bubble deformity, and implant rippling. Even so, complications are infrequent, and most women have no difficulties after their breast augmentation.
A: The final results of breast augmentation will be visible when the implants have fully settled, which may take a few months to occur. As the swelling diminishes within a few weeks after your surgery, you will notice how your breasts have improved in size and shape. Once they have settled into place, your enhanced breasts will look more attractive, full, and youthful.
A: Many women who come in for a breast augmentation consultation do not know what size implants to choose. It is important to choose implants of a size that will balance your personal preferences and your anatomical needs. For example, you may want very large breasts, but if you have little natural breast tissue, overly large implants may make you more likely to experience complications or have unnatural-looking results. Dr. Ashoor can offer his expertise and recommendations based on your unique situation.
A: Implants that are properly sized should not interfere with your ability to breastfeed in the future. Bear in mind that some women are not able to breastfeed regardless of whether they have breast implants. The original state of the glandular tissue prior to augmentation is very important in predicting how much milk a mother can make after breast augmentation surgery. Occasionally, scarring after surgery or interference with the innervation might affect breastfeeding.
A: Breast augmentation can be combined with other procedures such as breast lift surgery to produce even more desirable results. Many women will undergo breast augmentation with a breast lift to achieve fuller, more lifted breasts after aging, weight loss, pregnancy, or nursing.
