Rhinoplasty

As the focal point of the face, the nose can have a profound impact on how you view yourself. A poorly sized or shaped nose can create an unbalanced facial appearance and can be a major distraction from your natural beauty. An unsatisfactory nasal structure can be the source of childhood teasing that negatively impacts your confidence today.

Rhinoplasty is one of the most delicate procedures and needs three-dimensional thinking. It is done to reshape and resize your nose to restore symmetry and a beautiful facial appearance.

Benefits of Rhinoplasty

Procedure

Rhinoplasty is performed most of the time as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. Dr. Ashoor adds, removes, or shapes cartilage as needed to create your desired nose shape. Nasal bridges can be shaved down, and nostrils that flare too much may be resized. The technique used for your rhinoplasty will vary depending on your aesthetic needs.

A small incision is placed at the waist of the columella (the cartilage that separates the nostrils). The skin is then separated from the underlying structures of the nose, through which corrections are made. This technique provides a clearer view of the nasal structures (it’s like an open book), giving the surgeon better control of modifying your cartilages and also placing support cartilages to strengthen any weaknesses in the nasal skeleton. The scarring of open rhinoplasty is negligible.
Septoplasty is performed on patients with a deviated septum, which occurs when the cartilage that separates the nasal passages is crooked. When there's a deviated septum, it can cause breathing abnormalities such as snoring and may result in breathing difficulties during exercise. Septoplasty can straighten a deviated septum, helping restore normal breathing. We also use the septoplasty approach to harvest cartilage for nose reshaping and support.

Concerns

You will experience bruising, swelling, and redness following your treatment. Significant swelling should subside enough that you will feel comfortable returning to work after one to two weeks depending on the magnitude of your surgery, and most patients can resume their regular activities, like exercise, after four weeks. Significant swelling should subside within six to eight weeks, but the bridge of the nose may still be tender. Patients can resume wearing their regular glasses after four to six months.
Open rhinoplasty may leave an inconspicuous scar along the waist of your nose. Dr. Ashoor will do his best to ensure minimal scarring.
The cost of your rhinoplasty will be based on many factors. This includes surgical fees, hospital fees, and anesthesia fees. During your consultation, Dr. Ashoor will provide you with more details about what to expect regarding the cost of your procedure.
Nasal packing may make it uncomfortable to breathe for the first few days after your procedure. Continuous breathing through the mouth may also cause dryness. Dr. Ashoor will prescribe you with pain medication to minimize discomfort during recovery.
